Recently my duck has taken an interest in hatching eggs. We have no drake but I borrowed 3 fertile duck eggs from a neighbour. A week later I decided to put 4 chicken eggs under her too. (a week later so that they'd hatch at the same time) They were not due to hatch untill Saturday, but it is only Thursday and already we have 2 ducklings. There are still 5 eggs left to hatch. The 2 ducklings seem to be dry and walking already. I read that the duck will leave her nest with the chick after 10 hours as soon as they're dry. So my question is, Will my duck leave her unhatched eggs to tend to her other ducklings even if they still have plenty of time to hatch? Is there anything I can do to prevent her from leaving the nest?
