I have four breeding hens. One buff silkie hen, one white silkie hen, one black silkie hen, and one black booted bantam hen. Out of my four breeding hens, only two have ever gone broody. According to what I have read, silkies and booted bantams are known for going broody easily. Yet half of mine haven't. I can kinda understand why my booted bantam hasn't gone broody, she's easily stressed and simply changing her environment possibly means she won't be laying any eggs for a couple months. In fact, she only recently started laying an egg everyday to every other day again. But there's no reason why my buff hasn't gone broody. She lays eggs regularly, in fact usually more often than the black or white hen. So, what I'd like to know is, is there still hope my booted bantam and buff silkie will go broody?

There is always hope. Silies are known for being SUPERIOR MOTHERS.. Cochins are maybe in second place. JMO.

There is awlways hope! As of last week, all of my Silkie hens have gone broody. One, the last one to brood, just turned FOUR when she finally decided she wanted to raise some chicks. Her eggs are due September fourth :-) If you have another hen, put her in with the hens you want broody. Having another one tends to encourage them, mine always seem to brood in groups of five.
My Cochins (I think that's the same as a booted bantam?) aren't as super mommy-like as my Silkies, but they do brood pretty good. If you have a Silkie that hasn't gone broody though, it's only a matter of time. She's eventually gonna want some babies. And after she hatches her first clutch, you'll never keep her from going broody again! Once they experience it, it's all they wanna do!
Here's some of my broodies from last month...the paint in the pic went broody her first time a month before she started laying. She is on a consistant schedule now where she lasys every day for eight days, goes broody until those eggs hatch. Lays every day for eight days, goes broody. Very concistantly. Her name's Jean, and we call her Super Mom because she will adopt anything. Only four are in the pic, but there were five hens and they hatched mostly Cochins since I only had one broody Cochin at the time and I don't trust her any more after she brutally attacked a chick. Jean adopted the poor little thing, but it unfortunately died
