We have 12 four-week old Cornish x's -our first experience with meat birds. I currently let them out into a fenced in area in the afternoon for some sunshine, greens, and scratch. If I let them out to free range, will they return on their own to the coop? They just don't seem as bright as our layers........

By 4weeks old, as long as food and water was in the coop, they went home at night. Do remember they can't escape preds as well as standards if that is an issue where you are.

    They should return.

They sure do seem to have less sense than "regular chickens"

Mine tried to sleep outside every night on a large rock in the yard. I had to herd them into the coop area each night. They were well behaved and just really wanted to be free all the time.
