I built my coop my self too! I was so proud of myself. I have never built anything from plans before. Then we got more chickens and my coop maxes at 4 large chickens so I needed to build another coop - already had the plans and wood so I built another one- finished it yesterday and put the babies in last night. I will post a picture later.

Just be careful about taking on too much at once. They grow about a new chick size just about every week and by 4 weeks they are pretty big. I have 6 total 2 GLW who are now 13 weeks old and 3 SLW who are nearing 5 weeks old and 1 barred rock 5 weeks (she is my FAV!!!! of the babies)

It is so easy to think...wow this is great and order more too soon. Hindsight being 20/20 - each batch is different. Enjoy them at the stage they are as they grow.

For those of you with brand new chicks....I just want to remind you to check for pasty butt!!!!!!

I have an Easter Egger that I noticed was sleeping a lot and not eating like the others. I told everyone in the family that we need to keep an eye on her to make sure she's eating. My son was playing with her and made the comment "Ewwww, she has dried poop on her", so I ran over there and saw that her vent was completely plugged up. I didn't notice it through all her baby fluff. Poor baby, no wonder she didn't feel well! I took a very wet Q-tip and rubbed the "plug" until it softened and came out. Then she let out a huge poop right on my hand. I was never so happy to be pooped on

She seems to be eating now so hopefully she'll be fine...I'll still be watching her carefully, and I'll check all the others too!
