my cat and my rooster have never come in close contact but im afraid that if they do my rooster may hurt my cat or maybe the other way around though i dont think that will happen.

Why do you think this? Is your rooster super aggressive, or is the cat a super good hunter?

Both scenarios are possible, but only you can see them, and can work out what is best.

I used to have a cat that could and did kill full-sized adult chickens. She also brought down rabbits. She was an amazing hunter, and I would never trust that cat around chickens. On the other hand, many cats just are not that great at hunting and have no interest in chickens and are perfectly fine.

Same with roosters: some are mellow and some are just really fierce. You will be the expert here, not me! :D

I have a BR hen that attacks my cat...he's learned his place in the pecking order, lol, and stays out of her way.

If you're not sure, I think it's best to play it safe. My chickens are afraid of my rabbit but he would never hurt them, of course.

I was initially concerned that my cats would hurt my chickens, but fortunately that never happened. One ignores them and the other tries to play with them. The chickens (including the roos) give the latter one wide berth.
