Will my rooster's size be a problem?

T.Roo, my Lavender Orpington cockerel, is only 10 weeks old, but he already weighs around 5 lbs.. I happen to have some much smaller girls, like a Silver Spangled Hamburg, Golden Campine, Sicilian Buttercup, Black Sumatra, and Cream Legbar whom I worry about him accidently injuring with his weight when he matures. Will the fact that he is out of the youngest brood and the older girls have put him in his place help the situation at all? I was just wondering if mine was a legitimate concern. Thanks!

I have had Orpingtons who were too heavy for those sized-girls (more like Jersey Giant-sized!), and I have had Orpingtons who were just fine. So it depends on how heavy he ends up. Depends on his genetics. Go with your gut on this one after he matures.

My hens were obviously in distress with the larger sized roosters and I was cringing!

I have a GIANT coronation sussex rooster that is probably around 8-10 pounds. We also have a bantam silkie hen who is probably 1-2 pounds. We've never really had a problem.

Just as important as his size will be his temperment. If he doesn't get too big and is a gentleman with the girls, it may be fine. If not he may need to go. I had a good sized buff rooster with leghorns and it was fine.
