Will my run be large enough???

Quote:
Can I ask how you set up the barrel? I had thought about using them for my bantam breeding pens so any input regarding your experience would be great!

oegb is old english game bantams... All you do with the 55 gallon barrel is make a holde big enough for the chicken to get through and then put a stick in the middle you can screw from the outsideinto the stick, i use like 2x2 white pine.

Sounds very sensible and would fit right into the chicken run I'm building now. Got the foundation walls set in and poured, using old heavy rock mesh for see thru and old metal roofing along the base with posts and some of the mesh set in cement. Again, have to check out your OEGB, they sound wonderful. I am totally enjoying watching the development of my two Seabrights in particular their size compared to the rest, even the other Banty's! Thanx for sharing.

Well heres some pics I have, I need better ones and updated ones.

My bbred looks much better now he is older and dubbed. I also have silver duckwing

What little beauties, may have to have some of those, very similar to my Seabrights? Are they a sturdy species. My guys her in AZ have to deal with hot, hot summers, muggy monsoons, cool nights and cold winters, lotsa wind, dust etc... Will see how my guys make it here. I am so used to BC coast and interior weather! Will definitely have to get a barrel and convert it for the banty's. How do you clean it though? I love their wild feather patterns, upright tail feathers and downward wing!

If the barrel is on the ground you can cut the bottom off, or if it is mounted you'd want some type of beding to clean out easier. Only thing i'd tell you alot of people don't like about oegb is to show them you have to dub them, which is the cutting of the ear lobe, waddle, and comb. This is done only to the roosters. The top picture I show is a cockeral, shortly after that picture he got dubed. The thing I like about oegb is how beautiful they are, how well they lay eggs, and the color selection is huge. Now buying from a hatchery is a gamble of quality, how ever I have a really nice wheaten rooster come from a hatchery once. Ideal hatchery has the largest veriety of oegb for a hatchery, but at least you can see the colors they do sell. https://secuservices.com/ideal/newideal/Products.aspx?Category=Bantams - Old English
