I am new to chickens also this year and have a feeling when the girls have a baby (egg) they just need to comfort and cheer lead each other on. I think it is something natural they do. And oh my............ can some of them squawk. I have 3 EE and a BO and when BO gets going the whole neighborhood knows about it. Right before Christmas I got onto Craigs List and found someone who had farm fresh eggs for $1.50 a doz. and bought a doz. for all my neighbors. I took them over to each one and let them know I had been saving them for a month so they could have them for Christmas breakfast. They were so happy I would even think of them. It was great. From my back yard to your kitchen. LOLOLOL Now, I must say that white lie opened up conversation that they, " love the sound of them" and when they look in my back yard and see the chicken tractor it reminds them of home. I got no bad responce. It was great. Now, I am not saying if I was them, that I might not complain. Because I do, and they are my chickens! I love them but all I can do is do my best to keep the noice down and my neighbors happy. Sometimes it is worth going abit out of our way to keep the peace with the neighbors. I am working on moving them farther away from the houses as I had moved them up closer to the house to make it easier on me. We now, guess we all live and learn.
But, I to am curious if this will slow down as they age? Once they are not laying eggs will this behavour still continue as cheer leaders?
Good luck to us all and are cheer leaders.
