will roaming dogs attack a horse the way they might a goat?

Yes and no.
They will try if the horse is
afraid and runs wildly. They probably
wouldn't my horses because they
charge and attack any dog that comes
in their territory.

i had seen my own goats butt a dog far into the air more than once so that's why i was so surprised by the attack.

so taht's why i was wondering about the horse. the fences are six foot chain link and six foot wooden fences. so i don't think the horse would not be able to see it.

i have been pricing the electric at the store even before.

see yall

Be very careful, we had horses in an adgistment paddock near me who were attacked by a doberman and a xbred lab.
Faces and muzzles were torn, 1 horse had to be put down sadly.
They may go for the face and neck as well.
I would hate to see this happen, have a gun on hand!!

Any dogs in our pasture get run down. We have a few horses that just don't like dogs. Also a couple of 3 year olds that will step on them, "Just to see what sound they will make".

i wonder if i can train mine to do that with roaming dogs only and leave the other beings be. lol.

maybe i could paint little red targets on their back.

That is soooo funny!!!!! i love it!!
good luck with your new horsies!!!
perhaps quarterhorses are a good type to defend themselves!

actually, if i were buying one, taht is probably what i get, like a drafthorse, old and funky and slow. but this is an old thouroughbred. hopefully not too high strung. i will go visit it next week and then probably take delivery in a couple weeks to give me time to get my property how i want it.

the lady is willing to take it back if it's too freaky so that's cool.

i just keep getting all these free or close to free animals. all i can figure is it's meant to be.

there is a lot of room around here to ride, so i am tickled.

Ok, how well can you ride????
I had a thoroughbred and she was skitty sometimes and if I let her "have her head" man she would go FAST.
She was beautiful to look at but My paddock friends had arabs and quarterhorses who where much more fun for them.
If I got another horse I would probably get a MALE!
Arab, percheron!!!
Its good that you can take him/her back if it doesnt work, however you should get someone very experienced to go with you to have a look.
I beg you!!!
Thorouhbreds arent exactly "bombproof" so wear your helmet and feed it lots of lucerne, stay off the grains. get a cool feed!
Did it race when it was young?
Im really interested in this as Ive been there before when i got my first thoroughbred for $150.
