O by the way, you can go ahead and give them medicated chick starter to the ducks, but you won't want to raise the ducks and chicks together. The ducks will quickly outgrow the chicks and cause too much of a wet mess for them. you can put them back together when there older.

I took a gamble going with Ideal so that I could get my last set of ducklings close to my second set instead of a week apart. If ordering $35 or more in sexed babies I would order from Metzer farm's again in an instant. I plan on ordering from Holderread at some point, perhaps next year

Yeah, she looks crested to me, but very cute! I don't think the chickens will even notice the crest. I just hope she doesn't have a double dose of that gene.

She is crested and looks to me she is going to have a double crest like my Black Swedish Crested Duck.

And in duck breeds you can always get a crest to come out of 2 non crested parents if they have the right genes.

From what I've heard here on BYC, ducklings that have the crested gene from both parents often have neurological problems. Symptoms might not show up for a couple of weeks. Some people have had success in keeping them from getting too bad by keeping up with good nutrition, but others have had to put their ducklings down. There's really no way to tell if your duckling has two of the genes without being tested until it shows symptoms.

Chances are, your duckling is fine.

I think there's a site that talks about crested ducks somewhere. Someone else might post it.

ETA: Most crested ducklings with 2 of the genes don't make it through the hatch.

Some medicated feeds are okay with ducklings... the older types of meds in feeds used to be bad for them, but their are some that are okay. Amproilum or something like that, is okay for the ducklings...

When I got warmer roosters, I gave them to a friend who gave them to someone who auctioned them off for charity... I'd check in the chicken sections of BYC I'm sure comeone wouldn't mind taking them if you don't want them
