The other day while cleaning out the barn.... which my chickens play in I uncovered a nest of baby rats.... well the chickens went nuts. For some it may sound cruel.. but these are rats.... the chickens ran off with them and they were no more. I am concerned now though that my little cochin girl might have swallowed one whole and it is still there. How long would it take for a pinky rat to digest.... She is otherwise emptying her crop( tested last night ), but there is still this rat shaped and sized lump in there.... Oh and it would die too..... their crop would be acidic enough to kill and digest it?? I know birds eat mice and all... it is just that she is so small and it does not seem to be digesting... also I could be wrong and this could just be something anatomical... but it feels like an extra in her crop... any suggesting.... she still is eating and all otherwise. Seems active and such!!! Poops are normal.

One of my hens ate a full grown field mouse about 2 months ago. I saw her get it but she swallowed the ting whole before I could get it from her. I was worried at first because her crop was huge...it went back to normal in about a week.

Ours like to eat mice too; and they turn out fine. If she swallows it completely, I wouldn't worry too much; just keep a eye on her.

Thanks, I have been checking on her daily. I have 2 other girls that are hopefully going to get over impacted/sour crop so I did not want another with a pinky rat stuck. The lump seems to be getting softer. She is still acting normal and eating and foraging and all. I will keep an eye and hope she passes without issue.

She should pass it without a problem. My chickens eat mice, snakes and frogs all the time without a problem, yet.

Good luck with her.
