I am still learning the gender of chickens. This one came to me as a chick free with a mixed group. I have it in the pen with 7 other confirmed hens. Behaviorally, I see many dominant characteristics which lead me to believe it is a rooster. It is always the leader in the group. It is the first to venture to new territory. It is not nearly as social as the confirmed hens. Further more, I let a Cornish Cross roo forage to see the interaction between the two and this one went over near it, stood up really tall and charged at it. Ultimately, I separated them when the Cornish cross got pecked on the back and ran. I have not observed spurs on this bird either. It is approximately 6 months old. Additionally the bold red comb and wattles leads this novice to suspect this beauty is a roo.
Any help will be appreciated.
