Will someone please explain to me why

when there is approximately 1200 square feet in the house, all of the animals must be within touching range of me? Currently the 60+ lb dog and the 50+lb dog are taking over half of the sofa (well, technically MORE than half). One cat is asleep at my elbow and another cat is flattened across my wrists watching me type. Give it another little bit and the other cats will be up here with us.
Why did I think I needed more than about 10 square feet to live in?!
