I was watching American Idol tonight and at one point the camera caught the three judges smilig at the same time. Their teeth looked so unnaturally bright white that it got me to wondering....
Is this the way it will always be or is this too a fad? I know it has been going on for sometime now. Long enough that it has even had a trickle down effect into rural communities. Every once in a while someone will smile at me in public and the teeth are so bright white that it startles me a minute.
Does it really look better to walk around with the black light effect going on inside of a person's mouth? I dunno....
Maybe my age is showing.....

The natural color of teeth looks better to me, and from what I have read, whitening can weaken teeth. I'm hoping that it's a fad, but whatever it is, I'm not participating. Just a good toothbrush, some floss, and those nifty "go-betweens" is all I need. Then again, I have never even colored my hair, so I am probably way out in left field!

The bright white thing is not a fad. Its been going on for 100s of years. In the old days people gargled urine to get bright white teeth. Of course no one wanted them to white cause then everyone knew what you were doing. Kings were know for there white teeth when young but bad teeth when older cause of the damage from whiting.

I'm wondering too, if it weakens the tooth enamel?? I do like nice white teeth, but TOO white, that's a different story. I don't think that looks very natural. But I've not whitened my teeth either.

Tooth whitening will only go away if we can make yellow teeth popular. I don't see that happening any time soon :)

The super white teeth you see are likely veneers. Rather expensive, but extremely white and long lasting. I believe you can have them slightly darkened to get rid of the blinding white that probably causes birds to crash and oncoming cars to veer off the road.

It probably makes your camera auto-darken the whole rest of the picture.

I would rather look at someone with white teeth over yellow teeth any day.

I have a co-worker that eats all organic food and she takes pills for this and supplements for this and her teeth are grey with a green tint and her breath is horrible. My chicken coop smells better than her breath. She's gotta be missing something in her diet or her organic toothpaste. I have to hold my breath when she talks to me. Ewwwwwwwww.

Maybe she just doesn't brush her teeth, lol. Simply brushing with plain baking soda is enough to whiten and clean teeth.

She brushes her teeth because she tells us that she uses organic toothpaste. I once got a freebie sample of organic toothpaste and tried it. It was horrible! Yuck. I'm not sure why her teeth look grey/green but we all suffer in the office because of her terrible bad breath. I have to spray air freshener after she leaves out of my office to get rid of her bad breath smell.
