International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Yes, I seem to be doomed to bad cockerels with Kong. It's time to retire him.

Thank you @BlueTheBrahma @LaFleche @Chooks man.
if you work with birchen cockerels you need few generation of breeding and you end up with a good marans type in your BCM . agree with you there is no point keep working with Kong ,

It’s a real pity O/Y turned out like this. He had real potential as a young cockerel, big and chunky then, must have stopped keeping this up.

It will be interesting to see the Solo x Kong cockerels, this might be the last change to get good cockerels from Kong, seeing his genes mix with Banatambird’s silvers.

You’ll likely have to compromise on colour for a while to fix the type. I think I’ve heard Chooksman say this before, but it’s better to build a house before you paint it.

I've got someone coming for w/g on Sunday. Loves the dark Raven eggs he hatched from to put over her Olives.
I think my best course is to sell Y/O also. This frees up that coop for BBS Silvers Poppy and Solo and I'll add BCMs and Olive egger for fillers.

Would it be worth it to try test matings Poppy over the BCMs?
My only concern would be introducing recessive white to my Black Coppers.

I'm really going to need to help here just like with Kong x Solo to get this worked out, or I'll order eggs next spring to bring in new stock.
Thank you all for the help so far.

Forgot to mention I do have eggs from Jett F0, Rebel F1 and chicks from Jett F1s, P, P/G (Joannie F2) and W/R (Raven F2) growing out. Jett and Rebel I haven't hatched from yet so these are test mates. Still options available yet, especially putting high hopes into Jett's progeny.
What that boils down to is by selling these 2 boys I still have cockerels growing out in case something happens to Kong.

Unless of course something wipes out my whole flock.

The confusing one (11) and cockerel this year
IMG_4572.jpeg
two cockerels from 2023, one had a redder comb and the other smaller and yellow. It also had white spots on its breast, juts like this one. In fact, they seem like a reincarnation of this pair.

This makes me lean cockerel for 11.
I’m hoping not though.
