will the BOS give them black poo?

Started them on it a few days back and now ALL the poo is as black as, well, the seeds .. Am I giving them too much? They get a handfull everyday?

Good question!! I've noticed some black poo recently and I also feed BOSS. I also have given them dark leafy green veggies, and I KNOW that will give them the squirts sometimes (too many raisins and grapes too!) but its not ALL the poo, just a few here and there. Try taking the BOSS away for a few days and see what happens.

From what I have read on BYC, the dark poo you see is Cecal (think that is the name) and all your chickens will have it now and then...don't think it happens due to what they eat.

I feed BOSS daily and do not see evidence that it causes any problems.

Unless there is blood in the poo, there is no problem from what I have read. You can check this thread regarding Cecal poo.

I feed BOSS occasionally and haven't noticed anything funny, but I did feed my birds a head of red cabbage, and all the poo was turquoise. a very intense turquoise/aqua color... very odd. my kids thought it was cool.
