Will the pecking order change as chickens age?

I have a few 4 month old EE and Silkies and when I got a 1 year old she came in and took over. I was wondering if one of the 4 month olds might take over when they get full size.

it could happen but most likely not. the head of my flock is gary (4 year old hen) the bottom is penelope. i added chickens into the flock last year and they went to the middle but everyone of them treats penelope the same they are all above her. it wont be a problem for them the oldest is usually at the top.

It rarely changes, unless something happens to disrupt the order - like adding more birds, as you have found out. If you have a roo amongst your juvenile birds he will probably grow up and take over.
