Will the skin grow back??

We had a 2 1/2 mo bantam cochin pullet attacked by something and ripped the skin off the side of her head and neck from behind her ear down to the top of her breast.

Not much bleeding...she's doing great...eating, drinking, etc.

The skin is gone....I can see her whole neck anatomy. For you who have had this happen...does it grow in by secondary intention??

We are keeping it clean and coated with polysporin.

I had this happen to one of my ducks. Coon got a hold of her and tried to pull her through the chain link of her run. Tore all the skin off the top of her head and down the side of her face. It looked really bad and I just kept it clean and the skin and feathers grew back. It took a month of so after the skin healed for the feathers to come back, but now you would never know she was ever attacked!

It should grow back like kellim said, but in the meantime, you may want to coat it with anit-pick lotion so it's not a target for the other chickens. Also, maybe some liquid band-aid or some sort of thing to hold the skin up...

My 6 wk old Ameraucanas injury has hardened or scabbed after slicing the skin open on top of her head from top of ear to top of ear this week getting between chicken wire and the wall. I cleaned it and neosporined it the first two days then it hardened so I left it alone. Couldn't keep the skin together at the angle it was so I guess she'll have a wierd gap up there. But she is healing nicely and is eating up all the attention she is getting.

I'm not sure what to do, my chicken was attacked by my dog, most of her skin is missing on her back, she is moving around some and clucking, what can I do to help her

Anything that's antimicrobiol and ph balanced otherwise it will cause a burning sensation if not ph balanced. Don't use perixide or iodine. It retards healing. Don't use petroleum based products. They are too "hot".

I'm going through the same thing. Bloody hell. Prayers for your little chicken. xxx
