I think my chicks may have gotten too hot today. When I came home around 12:30 to check on them the temp in their brooder was between 99 & 88 (depending on where they were in the tank) and they all looked good. When I got home at 5:00 I noticed that all of them were laying against the outside wall. So I checked the temp again....the temp directly under the light was 117 & the outer sections were 101. No one was panting, but they were as far from the light as they could go. I immediately turned one of the lights off & raised the other one. They are all moving around eating & drinking but I am still worried.

Too hot can kill too. My chicks are 2.5 weeks old and they are in an outside brooder. Yesterday it was 90* in the brooder and coop and I ended up having to go in with the hose and soak down the floor and mist the chicks with a spray bottle to cool them off. Today they dont have any lights on in the brooder but I continue to go check on them so they dont get overheated.

As long as you fixed it and they are acting normally, I wouldn't worry. If they were laying on the litter, weak and not eating or drinking, then you would know they needed to be cooled off and given some electrolytes and fluids. Pretty much just like people and animals. It sounds like they were just a little too warm for a bit and are fine now.

I think they are all ok now. I was just out with them & they were all running around like little maniacs playing chase with the shavings. The only thing I noticed was that a few of them had poop that was watery, but otherwise seemed fine.
