Will they come back for night time? I need help. update

Well- I have been correcting the dogs and keeping a close watch on my flock since this happened. I honestly couldn't do that to m bil's dogs unless they were terribly mean and kept at my chickens. The reasoning behind this is because he is family and I have gone through WWIII with him before and it's not fun.

If it were somebody else and the situation was getting worse then I might think about it though. I have talked to him and he keeps the puppy in the house if he is not able to watch her so I have to give him credit for that. He still has a case of the stupids though- believe me!

I hate the stupids. It's such a terrible affliction!

The dog in my story wasn't vicious or even threatening. On the contrary he was quite skiddish, but he was destructive and I felt I had exausted every way that I had to take care of the problem. I didn't ever want to hurt him, and had even tried yelling at him and chasing him down the road as alternatives. He just kept coming back and the CO2 pistol was next on the list of things I could think of that might scare him off. I don't know that he would have gotten after my chicks, and I hope that I never have to find out. I can't imagine how awful this has been for you. Trust me, I know what it's like to deal with family, and I applaud you for your diplomacy.

So many people are irresponsible and ignorant when it comes to dogs. They seem to think that country life equates to allowing their dogs to roam freely. Pet ownership comes with a responsibility to provide for and protect that pet. One can not protect a pet that roams freely. There are threats of other animals, vehicles, etc. for pets that are not somehow contained. It is also a grossly irresponsible thing to do to one's neighbors. A pet owner can not control what that pet does (pee, poop, dig, destroy property, kill other pets, etc.) on someone else's property when they roam freely. It's rude and inconsiderate to allow a dog to have free run on other people's property. If they want dogs, they'll get dogs. And I assure you most of us do not want other people's dogs running on our property.

Sorry for the rant. It's a subject that really irks me no end. There are no bad pets - just bad pet owners.
