Question........will my chickens come back to their coop if I let them outside the run during the day? The coop is located inside the horse pasture so there is another fence to go through to get to the grass. Are they going to come home to roost at the end of the day?

Yay Chicks! :

It may also be a good idea to do a couple of "test runs." For example, let them out an hour before dusk and see how that goes.

This is how I let any new chickens I get free range.

My three free range in the backyard all day and then, just before dusk, they go back in the coop/perch and wait for me to 'tuck them in'. Lately they have been coming up to the back door and clucking/demanding to be let in to the bathroom (right off the back door) where they 'grew up' in the bathtub. If it's raining hard or really cold I will let them with the 'cat door' open so they can come in and out. Can we say spoiled?

What if one (or a couple) don't come back? Not that I really think that will happen since they copy what each other does anyway, but if one did get lost, I'd have a very hard time catching it.

Not if you see where it roosts for the night. You can pretty much walk up to a chicken after dark and just pick it up. They don't see worth a darn when it's past dusk. They will most likely go back in as a group, anyway....
