I have 12 chicks. We are building a coop that is 8ft wide by 16ft long. Will this be big enough? They will also have a 8ft x 24ft run (fenced, covered attached to the coop.). Will this be big enough?

Oh yes...they will be very happy with all of that space!!

2 to 3 sq ft per bird is the minimum.

8x16 (length x width) = 128 sq ft

128 / 12 birds = 10.6 sq ft per bird.

I'd say you could keep two to three times as many birds in an 8 x 16 - if not more!

Yes! The formula I've hear is 4 square feet of space per chicken in the coop, 10 in the run.
So, you have room for 32 chickens in the coop

Only 19 in the run.

Well, a chicken with more space is a happier chicken! Besides, you have room for growth.
