I checked on my Brody today and I saw that one of her eggs had a peck in it with blood coming out. This egg is only at Day 15-17. I took it into the house to candle and saw movement. Does it have a chance to survive?
If it was later on in the hatch, I'd say yes. But, I think day 15-17 is too early for it to lose any blood and make it. But, I'd put corn starch on the crack, wrap it in a damp paper towel, stick it back under mama, and hope for the best. I'm doubtful it will make it, but it's worth a shot. Good luck!
Is your broody by herslef or are there other chickens? If there's others I would seclude her to keep it from happening again. I had this happen once, and it was because of my rooster. He was very good to the eggs, helped her sit on them and everything. Then one day he mounted her and crunched an egg. He was an awesome daddy after they hatched, but he came out after that until they hatched and were walking around.
Other hens will also attack eggs.
She's in our coop nursery and only with one new baby. What happened was, one of my other chickens laid an egg in her box while she got up to eat/drink. They're about 1 week apart.
