Will this make a good incubator ?

LOL! Boy, are you in trouble!

Hatching is addictive and you just can't get enough! Once those chicks start to grow up you want to hatch more! Then there is the 3/1 ratio of roosters to hens that you always seem to get! I swore off buying straight run chicks just to discover the joy of hatching and I believe you get even more roosters that way!

I agree with Wisher.....Enjoy it and the rest will come. First hatch might not be perfect, but then it might be...lol I use an excel spreadsheet for mine and record am and pm temp and humidity for 2 of the humidy/temp combos and 2 of the eggometer thermometers as well as any note any adjustments or changes. On my sheet I found it handy to include dates, ie start date and 7th and 14th day for candling as well as lockdown day. It is easy to forgot stuff with a busy life. It comes in handy later, especially if hatching for others. Great work and best of luck but most of all enjoy the experience.

Hey Pickled, how is the incubator doing? I just hatched 9 Silkies last week. Think I am done for the year unless someone wants me to hatch for them. Hope all is well.

Things are going well happy to hear about your silkies ! I am on day 15 I can't wait to see how things turn out. Thanks for stopping in again.

I candled them on day 8 I had a couple yolkers and some that had expired. The rest I had a nice embryo developing, very easy to see in the Lav Orp eggs. I have Lav Orps, Black Orps, BBS Marans and Golden Cuckoo Marans a total of 57 eggs. I had given up on candling some of the darker Marans you just can't see them. I will just do a sniff test occasionally to make sure I don't have a stinker in there. I cracked open the ones that didn't look well just to have some confirmation on my candling habits things are good for my first time. I'll keep you posted...Chad
