It should work just fine.

I have just one concern and not just with this setup. What about plastic being exposed to the sun and any leaching into the water? I would much rather see this in the shade. Anybody else have concerns about plastics in the water supply and more so when gettin exposed to the sun.

I use (in the summer) a stainless shallow pan and a one gallon glass jar for my none winter months.

I recall seeing that unit being used in a box built so only the bowl was open to the chickens, and the water bottles were in an insulated heated space to prevent freezing

i don't think exposure to plastic effects chickens as much as it does humans simply because they have much shorter life spans. the toxins do not have time to accumulate in the body the way they would in a person. not positive though, and still a good idea to keep it in the shade.
