Will this work to measure temp and humidity?

Do this........go to WalMart and buy at least 4 - preferably 5 of these.......(yeah, that's about $27 worth, but......) (Keep your receipt, because you will be taking 2 or 3 (maybe all but 1) back for credit. Take them home, open them up, put a AAA battery in all of them, and set them all in one place to monitor for several hours. See which 2 are consistant with each other's temp and humidity. . (I bought 6, and yep......only two were right on the money with each other's readings........the others were OFF "Bigtime".......one as much as 9 degrees). Now, is this temp and humidity correct on the ones I kept......and I mean correct with a calibrated instrument??? Mine stays off (cooler) 2 degrees from a very expensive instrument I was fortunate to get on ebay really cheap ....... one of these: http://www.foodservicedirect.com/pr...-Temperature-Humidity-Instrument-9.5-inch.htm

This thing is dead on (been calibrated with another very high-dollar instrument - not mine, by the way) and I have it integrated into my LG bator........and what's really amazing is, the temp and humidity changes are so responsive, I can pull one of the small plugs out of the top of the bator, and within 5 seconds I can see the temp drop "in tenths" of a degee.......I mean steadily keeping up with it. Same goes for the humidity. As for the Springfield $6 checkers, it takes forever for them to respond to such tiny changes in temp and humidty. So, no ........... I don't rely on those $6 gauges. I will try to post pics showing the difference of the Cooper, and the 2 Springfields later on tonight.......

Here's some pics showing the difference in 2 Springfields, and the Cooper unit tonight. Again, I trust the Cooper unit because I've had it calibrated on a machine that is used in the AC design industry. I've got the temp probe and the hygrometer probe stuck through the top of the LG top. These two Springfield units were the two that were consistant with each other on temp and humidity, while the other 4 I had along beside them were all over the place on temp and humidity. (I took them back and got my money back) You can see the difference in the temp between them and the Cooper unit.

mine are all slow to change temp the plastic case just holds temp long after the actual them has changed , but if you get a spike it will hold onto the temp longer even if spike was temp . ,, I tried a bulb one with a copper wire and a sensoe at the end of it , put the sensor inside and the theromoter outside , it didn't work all that well either it was one of those indoor outdoor models .
I have a buddy here that has a wireless eloctronic indoor /outdoor model and it works greay ,just can't see 45 dollars in one right now .

I've read tons of posts on here stating how bad the Little Giant incubaor is ............ especially with temp spikes and fluctuations. I know everyone doesn't have a high tech temp and humidity checker, but I think some (or most) that are seeing the problems are being misled by the cheaper temp/humidity checkers. Again, I can crack the lid for about 20 seconds on my LG, and see the temp drop on the Cooper a "tenth of a degree" at a time "quickly".........close the lid back up, and see it gradually rise back to the required temp. The Springfields never change ...... even when the lid is left open longer.

Hey, _Randall_. I was just thinking of doing the same thing...going to Wal-Mart and buying a few of those same thermometers and testing them all out. Either that or coughing up the $$ to buy a decent one!

dustponds10-I hear you on the "slow to respond" thing with this unit. Even after the light is out, the temp keeps going up. Same thing when the light goes back on...the temp continues to go down. I've been recording the swings all day trying to get a feel for this stupid thing. It seems to read great when it doesn't have to go up and down constantly. It read the same as my AC thermostat this morning.

I'm going to try one more thing then I'm calling it a night. I think my husband is starting to suspect that I've lost my marbles since I'm obsessing over this temp thing.

I think it's pretty obvious................if a person is not concerned with having a stable and consistant temp and humidity, they don't realize just how crucial it is in having success, or failure!! Just my opinion......
