I have 1 mean old hen who is in jail! my problem is I have to figure out a way to keep water for from freezing. here is my crazy idea...I have a 1 quart insulated drink cup with a hole in the center of the cap for a straw. will it work to put a nipple where the straw hole is and hang it upside down? do you think the thermal walls will be enough to keep the water from freezing? it was 29F in the coop this a.m.

You'll need to put a second hole in the bottom of the cup to let air in as they take water out to drink. Nipples won't work when there is a vacuum created. Still have to take it in at night, at least. Haven't come across one of those insulated cups that really hold hot or cold well.
