Hey Y’all! I’m trying to sex my 6 chicks that are 6-7 weeks old. We have 4 Cream Leg-bars and 2 Golden Laced Wyandotte’s. They are all the same age but there is one CLb that has completely different looking feathers and is pretty underdeveloped for his age. Thanks in advance!

5&6 looks like boys to me i would say others girls, the cream legbar a are autosexing so you should have been able to tell at birth, one with more prominent lines = girls the ones that are more grey = boys

Ok thank you. I️ figured I️ would ask about the CLb’s for good measure. Bummer that’s both our GLW’s are cockerels. Chick #4 has much more defined barring, so I️ wasn’t sure. I️ know adult roosters get barred feathers.

yes it’s a shame they will be pretty cockereles though? can you find homes for them? or can you keep,

you can tell because they have wattles and most hens won’t get them untill they are about 14 weeks!

I agree that both GLWs are males--the red wattles jumped out at me as I scrolled through the pictures.

Cream legbar pullets have brown striped down, while males have grey down with a spot on their head. Your fourth chick clearly has a brown striped head, not a grey head with a spot, so she is a pullet, not a cockerel.

That makes sense. They all had stripes. I just wasn’t sure if they were pure bred, and if that makes a difference.

Does anyone know why Chick #4 could be so far behind in growth compared to the others?
Her beak seems to be longer than the others, but she is smaller. Not sure if I️ need to file it a bit.

it could be anything! she may just be a slow grower, please leave the beak alone she’s got this far!! she may have been the one to hatch last, but keep an eye on her!

I️ don’t want to intervene if I️ don’t have to. This one is definitely the most friendly and loves being handled. She sits all the time and waddles when she walks. Anytime she’s in the sun, she flops down and fans out her wing like an umbrella. Perhaps she just needs a bit more vitamin D than the others. When they are all let out of the pen to run around on the grass, she doesn’t play with them. She just lays there in the sun.
