Wilma’s Toe

Hello, Wilma was limping today, so I soaked her for about 40 minutes and then did an exam. She appeared to have a bumble directly underneath her nail. Has anyone experienced this? It began to loosen when I squeezed. I was worried that the nail would bleed profusely if I wasn’t careful, so I slowly picked at it. No blood. Bumble and toenail came out together. Picked a bit more trying to get it all and got a little blood. Flushed with vetricyn, packed with antibiotic cream, covered with duoderm, wrapped and released her until tomorrow. Anything else I should do? Will the nail come back? Does the wrap job look okay? Is it fine to just redress tomorrow? Excuse the filthy bathroom. There was a bit of an initial struggle and so. much. poo.

I think it looks great! Well done!!!! I would recheck it every day or so and retreat as necessary. I believe that sweet Wilma’s toenail will grow back!

Update: I removed the dressing today. Flushed once more with vetricyn, but it didn’t appear to be open, just a hole, no discharge. She was much happier with it off and was limping far less.
