One of my hens is (occasionally) laying tiny little wind eggs. All of them have been laying for awhile, so the how/why has me flummoxed. When I cracked one to see if there was a tiny yolk in it, the stuff that came out looked like bloody white. Was it fertile? Obviously, it wouldn't have been viable for long-- there'd be no room for a developing embryo. What's up?

Blood in an egg has nothing to do with its being fertile, it is a glitch in the egg laying machinery, and can happen occasionally in a hen with no real problems.

Here is how to tell whether an egg is fertile:

Good luck; I hope this turns out well.
