Me and My husband were unaware of the land ordiance and we are rurally zoned. after we got our chicken our neighbors reported it to the town who then made us apply for the exception. It was crazy we had to go up infront of a board and state our case and all our abutting neighbors except one came and tried to dispute us. We luckly won but have alot of restrictions like no more than 12 chickens and not allowed to have rooster had to get rid of the one we had POOR HENRY

kids are still sad about him. We also can not compost on site and have to bag everything and bring it to different town to dump. I also can only let them free roam in my fenced in yard not my whole yard because my neighbors don't want them to wander onto there grass. Just thought I would post because I am rurally zoned and thought I would have no problem having backyard chickens and have 1.64 acres of land. It was over 150.00 to apply for the exception. I was also upset about the ordinance because 2 house down they have chickens 2 horses and a rooster right next to the neighbors that filed the complaint. hope this helps anyone in Windham NH.
