The space we are putting our coop in us a little nook in my greenhouse. We are framing in a 4th wall with a door and already have ventilation at the roof line from how it's built. We are putting in a very large run in a spot that gets lots if sun and framed in a small door to let them out to it. Problem is there were no windows. We have electricity and we are putting in a light source in the coop. I'd just seen several coops up here (Alaska) and they didn't have windows. With the -30* we see regularly at our house in the winter a window means the loss of lots of heat and our hope was to keep the hen house as warm as possible to keep from losing all our winter eggs and our hens to severe frostbite. My thinking was, in the winter when they are in there more we hardly get any sunlight anyway (as little as an hour or two) but in the summer when we get the most light (23-24 hours) they will have plenty of access to their run. Is is okay to skip the windows as long as we have artificial light and ventilation? We already put the walls up and now I'm just feeling sick that we might have done it wrong :(

Pictures? This might help! I live in Florida so it's hard for me to understand Alaska weather. Our coop has 3 windows but of course we have a lot of heat and humidity here.

I posted pictures in the coop design forum titled "We're getting close." Despite all our snow our winters are very dry. I spend all winter lotioning because of how badly my skin cracks from the dryness. So humidity isn't such a huge thing here.
