WINDOWS

In the south we want our windows facing east to get the first morning sun. The south is to hot in the afternoon. We do want lots of vents on the south side. If possible insulate your roof. It will help in summer and winter. I didn't and sure wish i had.
A lot of coop building is like home building , you build for your climate and your site. Good luck Jean

YES THIS IS MY PLAN.THAT IS WHY I SAID 8X8.NO WASTE WITH PLYWOOD.I AM LUCKY THAT I WORK FOR AN OLD COUNTRY VET.HE IS GREAT AND FREE VET CARE IS A BONUS.PLUS HE HAS A HUGE PILE OF LUMBER HANGING AROUND.I HAVE FINALLY CONVINCED HIM TO LET ME TAKE IT AWAY:thumbsup

A shingle roof will give you a degree of insulation from the sun. I think shingles will be easier to handle if you are working by yourself. There is something about making order out of chaos with shingles that can be very peaceful. I think it is my OCD kicking in. I am going to put a metal roof on the small barn I am going to build. I got the metal for free. If I had to buy the material, I would use shingles that matched my house.

I live in a igloo so to say no shingles. It stinks because you have to paint every three years. The shingles should be about the only things i have to buy.Yes i agree shingles are fun. They keep my mind occupied amazing because of my adhd

I put in French doors, facing south. I call them windoors. Usually they will just function as light and ventilation sources, but a couple of times a year I can bring in a wheelbarrow and a hose through them for major cleaning.
