Wing Bones?

    Hello
    My chicks are 3 weeks old, and they are feathering out, some of their upper wing bone's look bare, is this normal, and should I put red lights in their brooder so they don't think that they can pick? Right now I have 2 250 heat lights, and 1 250 heat light, they are outside and it is cold here. [​IMG]

    Yes it's normal for some chicks to feather out slowly across the wing bows. It's really normal with some baby roos [​IMG]
    If you are having a problem with pecking red lights can help.

    Some of mine look awful, like they ran through a lawn mower. It can vary depending on breed, but expect bare spots until they are a bit older. It's always a good idea to observe their behavior, and gritsar makes a great suggestion re. red lights to make sure everything's mellow in the brooder.
