I have several bantam chicks about 2 1/2 weeks old. They were shipped to me by error...I never was able to convince them I didn't order the bantams...just 2 LF breeds!!! Needless to say, I didn't get the money back they charged to my Discover Card. Anyway, Cackleberry's mixed purebred bantam offer. So here I am just learning about LF breeds and sexing and I get these little guys!
I have 2 that are identical. They look like Barred Rock chicks but do all of their wing feathers come in slower than the other breeds? In the 1st picture you can rather see its wings and how short the feathers are. The longest are mybe 1/2 - 1" long. All of the other breeds in that lot have much longer wing feathers...I don't mean hen vs roo. The 2nd picture is another of the bantams and the same age. See how much longer its wing feathers are? About 2-2 1/2" long. And not just these two breeds in this bunch but all of them have the longer feathers,
Also, in the 2nd picture, can anyone tell what color that is? silvery rather than buff. The 3rd picture is a new one of my Myrtle..the Cochin. She is now about 12 weeks old and I sure hope she has not changed sex on me as she is one of just a very few that I know I want to keep so far!!!
Thanks!!

The first 2 are both actually bantams and I did think it was a BR but have been stumped over the short outer end wing feathers. OK so maybe 2old English bantams...there are either 2 or 3 of those, I will have to look again. Gld Myrtle is still Myrtle. When she was younger a couple of people here thought cuckoo color but barred is just fine with me too.
TY

It is a bantam. I have no doubt on that. There are about 15mixed purebred bantams out there and all of them have longer wing feathers than the two like this one. I don't remember my LF BR having shorter wing feathers than any of the others when they were little. Is that usual for BR bantams?

ive had bantams with wing feathers like that, its not unusual but idk if it depends on breeds, My RIR bantams and some of my cochin bantams had feathers come in like that

the last cochin does have the cuckoo pattern not a barred cochin pattern

1st barred rock
2nd looks like an oeg

OK...another question on that wing feather length. Do bantams that were 'created' from LF tend to have those shorter wing feathers to begin with and 'real' bantams have the long ones? I don't mean when they grow up, I men at this young age.
