Ooooh, Marans in the bloodline.

The plot thickens.....
I'll have to see how they look as they age but my current theory is they are F2. Possibly back crossed to a marans because they claim a "darker shade of olive. Or possibly fibro Easter Eggers mixed with marans.

It's funny to me that the hatchery is keeping it secret but I guess they don't want copies.

what's weird is that they all are pretty much copies of each other as is but they still wont say in most cases. I've seen some say f2 OEs but that's about as specific as they get

This makes sense.
No genetics genius here but I believe the fibro gene is dominant. (Only one copy is needed)

Slightly off topic randomness....

You probably know this but I'm collecting eggs from my lone Olive Egger who is backcrossed to my other BCM roo. Looking forward to see how these eggs look.

What you don't know...
I've instructed the wife to watch the feed store for fibro or blue feathered green/blue eggers.

(Long shot)
Last time she was in they had ordering from the hatchery shut down for some reason.

That should be interesting! Looking forward to your new adventures in the blue/green egg layers.

I went to the Hoover's website to help someone figure out what breed they had and saw a note saying sold out for the 2025 season! Crazy!

I officially raised my egg prices to $6/dozen. Demand is too high and it's the same price as the cheapest you can get at the store. My customers didn't blink an eye and sold out as soon as I walked into the office.

Thank you! What breed of pullets are you getting??
Two more Buff Orpingtons. Choices are very limited when ordering started pullets and I did not want to risk getting more hybrids even though I love the EEs. We have had bad luck with all the RSLs and EEs previously. The Orp has been a consistent layer, almost every day (thank God) and seems healthy. Given our required small number restriction of four total we could only acquire two more. Then there's Goldie - most would cull her due to her taking up valuable space and consuming feed but we just can't do it. She's resilient and been through so much. Still very fubar. Every day is different with her and it's a gamble. We decided to let nature run it's course to allow her to be a chicken for as long as she is able.
At some point in the future when we can expand operations (housing, acres, chicken math), we will have a rainbow of chickens. That's the goal anyway. Until then, we'll be thrilled to have three healthy orp layers.
