Does anyone have any good wing protectors they have made or purchased for overmated hens? My hens have Hen Saver hen saddles, but their wings are getting worn at the elbow area (looks like shoulder but it’s not!)
Thanks

Better to just to remove the rooster for a while. Saddles can be irritating. I see a few bare backed hens every season. As long as there's no wounds I don't bother with them, and so far I've never seen any wounds. Feathers will grow back in the fall.

We will be making a space for him to move into, but that won’t be ready for a few weeks. We have a ton of predators and the chickens are in a run while we are at work, so building a separate run will take a bit of time. Now I realize I should have done this when spring just started!

It is always handy to have a separation pen. It can have so many uses. I can toss a naughty rooster, or broody hen in one really easy. It was the best thing we ever done. We have since added a few more pens for things like chick integration.

Your hens will probably be okay. Young roosters mate a lot during the day, especially in spring. Things slow down a bit as weather gets hotter.
