"They do look . . . good," Silver shut her beak, fighting the urge to come forward. For a moment her yellow eyes roved the churning, swaying current, shuddering. Finally, closing her eyes, she alighted from the tree a mere two feet from the brook. With a sigh, she smiled.
Unfortunately, her eyes were still closed when she took her first step.
The ground seemed to buck beneath her steps. Head over talons, Silver yelled as she landed in the brook. Sputtering, she stood in the shallows, trembling, her eyes tightly shut while she chanted. "I'm dead, I'm dead, I died, I'm dead."
