So sorry for your loss.
I just loss a 9 year old welsummer this morning. I have 2 other 9 year old hens who are healthy and still laying....1 EE and one Salmon Fav. They are part of my origional flock of 5. I lost 2 of them at 5 years of age (we had sudden 105 degree weather- i think it was heat stroke) and now Emma at 9 years old. Hoping the other two older girls will hang on for longer.
I really life expectancy depends so much on the breed, how productive they are and their living conditions.
