can anyone suggest a remedy for this? My female Pekin has wings like straw even though she is mounting out all her other feathers. I feed her laying feed because she lays an egg a day and also oyster shell. Is this common?

Those are just the feather shafts of her new feathers coming in, no need to worry! The new feathers will grow in through those "straws" and she should have nice, new, beautiful wings in a couple weeks.

Her wings have been like this since June. Even though she's mounting all her other feathers there is no improvement with her wings? Should I be giving her any supplement?

Oh, ok! That is not normal then. Not sure what's going on exactly, but have you checked her closely for feather lice or mites?

Yes I have... It's not that. Is there somewhere to purchase supplements for ducks that you know of??

Try Poultry Nutri drench TSC carries it. also add some extra protein to her daily snacks mine love dog kibble some use cat kibble,. make sure it is good quality. also dried meal worms make good source of protein

The feather sheaths are typically pulled off by the bird itself when it preens. Do you ever see her preening around these areas? Are you able to grab the tip of one between your thumb and index finger to see how dry it is and how easily it rolls around between your fingers? I don't see any blood feathers in your pic, and those are usually pretty easy to pick out on a white duck.

She is not pulling on those "straw festers" but is growing new feathers around them now. I'm perplexed. They are not loose. When I gently roll them, they are in tight. Someone said maybe it's from a lack of calcium from laying. I just can't figure it out.

Hmm. How many baths does she get a day? Usually Bean knocks those things off in spades when she beats the tar outta her feathers during bath time.
