“Do you remember the death of Fern and Moss?” Myrtle questioned, slipping the knife back in its case.“Don’t remember that.” Flytrap said evenly. Her demeanor appeared calm, but every muscle was tensed and prepared for any sudden event.
"Well wow, how in the land of Pantala did you ever figure that out?" He rolled his eyes.“Okay, um-“ Cicada fumbled, glancing around as her mind raced to put words to speech.
“I went into the jungle cause I wanted to see the LeafWings. It was on impulse, stupid, I know.” She said, turning her eyes away and flattening her ears.
“I barely got in before I got caught by a sundew. Fortunately for me, some LeafWing saw me and- helped me..” Her eyes studied Cyprus before suddenly brightening.
“Oh my gosh, you’re that dragon!” She cried.
“Nope.” Flytrap cooly, watching Myrtle put the knife away in her peripheral vision. She kept her eyes locked on the intruding LeafWing.“Do you remember the death of Fern and Moss?” Myrtle questioned, slipping the knife back in its case.
“Well, either you are lying , or going through amnesia . Those were my mom and grandmother . They caught a sickness . Then clever old you came up with the bright idea to not give them the medicine that l had worked on, and they died. I then went to the savanna , and have lived there ever since . Then today , I saw a HiveWing being threatened by one of your dragons . Cyprus thinks that she killed the queen . I demand that you stop that nonsense . It will cause a war if you are not careful.” Myrtle stayed calm, up until telling Flytrap about what she had seen, where her voice raised a tone louder .“Nope.” Flytrap cooly, watching Myrtle put the knife away in her peripheral vision. She kept her eyes locked on the intruding LeafWing.
Cicada grimaced. “Yeah, well.. thanks for depriving it of me. At least I’m not a bad meal.” She noticed Cyprus’ angry eyes and jumped back into her story."Well wow, how in the land of Pantala did you ever figure that out?" He rolled his eyes.
His face clouded again. "I also made some pretty stupid decisions that day." The Leafwing's eyes and voice starting fill with rage once again as he glared at Cicada. "The least of which being depriving that sundew of a good meal." He muttered as he recounted to himself what had happened.
“The ‘medicine’ wasn’t safe!” Flytrap snapped. “I told them that! You’re not a medic, that stuff probably would’ve made them die faster anyway! And it’s no wonder I haven’t heard head nor tail of you in years, you decided to run off and seclude yourself! That’s not my fault!” The queen’s tail lashed.“Well, either you are lying , or going through amnesia . Those were my mom and grandmother . They caught a sickness . "Told you what?" Cyprus' voice was quiet but intense, accenting every word.Cicada grimaced. “Yeah, well.. thanks for depriving it of me. At least I’m not a bad meal.” She noticed Cyprus’ angry eyes and jumped back into her story.
“Right, right. Storytime. I got it. Well, after you left I went BACK in like a half-witted gazelle and got in pretty far. I didn’t see anyone, and I fell asleep at night. I woke up and realized I been caught by the LeafWings and they brought me to Queen Acacia. She knew who I was. She was going to send me home with a guard, but went herself at the last minute.
She.. didn’t get mad at me. We talked. She was really nice.
We parted at the border. I told her I could make my way back home from there. She told me, ah- told me..” She trailed off, staring hard at the ground.
“Well, I don’t know if it’s for me to say..” Cicada shrugged. “Just, don’t go telling everyone I guess.” She took a breath. “She said she usually went to the border. To look at the sunset over the savanna. Apparently you guys don’t have as good a sunset in the jungle. She just gave off a real motherly vibe. It made me wish to be a LeafWing. Flytrap’s really lucky to have a mom like her. Have had.” She added with a wince."Told you what?" Cyprus' voice was quiet but intense, accenting every word.
“That medicine was perfectly fine. I'm an herbalist. I should know." Myrtle took out her knife for the 4th time that day. "I'm going to side with Cicada. If Cyprus lays a talon on her, I'm not going to just stand back and watch. She did not kill your mom, like he thinks. Acacia died of old age. He won't admit it because he's a twigs for brains. But that's not surprising, seeing as you are too." She snapped back, turning to leave. "I'm not afraid of you banishing me from your kingdom. I can survive plenty well on my own. And even if I couldn't, there are many other tribes that I could join!"“The ‘medicine’ wasn’t safe!” Flytrap snapped. “I told them that! You’re not a medic, that stuff probably would’ve made them die faster anyway! And it’s no wonder I haven’t heard head nor tail of you in years, you decided to run off and seclude yourself! That’s not my fault!” The queen’s tail lashed.
“Cyprus can do whatever he wants, he’s smart. Leave him alone. He’ll probably kill that tree-freaking HiveWing for me anyway. She’s outcasted anyway, Pollen’ll never miss her.”
Her eyes narrowed. “Quit trying to stand up for the miserable little thing or I’ll outcast you further than just the border of the jungle. She killed my mom, you can’t convince me otherwise.”
"You know, I was." Cyprus remarked rather frankly, cooling down ever so slightly.“Well, I don’t know if it’s for me to say..” Cicada shrugged. Have had.” She added with a wince.
She looked back over at Cyprus. “Look, I honestly don’t know what happened to her. I guess F- Queen Flytrap’s justified to accuse me. Getting banished is at least better than getting killed or something. Uh.. unless you were planning to kill me or something.” She said, stumbling back a few steps.
