We have two mixed breed ducks who are now about 14 weeks. Daisy is making a point to let me know she can fly. She flies about 1-2 off the ground for about 10-20 feet from time to time. We have clipped the wings of our chickens in the past. Just wanting to know if the process is the same for ducks? I should mention we live inside the City of Spokane and there are very large dogs to the north and west of us. Should she fly over our 6' fence, we'd be down one duck. Any help would be appreciated. I know her dad was a Khaki Campbell; suspecting the duck was a Rouen.

If I was worried about one of mine flying over a fence into traffic or the mouth of a dog I would clip it's wings in a heartbeat. Better safe than sorry, right?

As for method, it's the same, just clip the ten primary feathers on one or both wings and that will keep them from flying.

On a day when the wind is really gusty mine can clear a six foot fence so I would suggest clipping.
