winter bedding

I've been using hay/straw as our primary bedding for the ducks, but I wondered if I could even use shavings or something in place of it for winter, unless it doesn't make a difference really.

I like shaving much better than straw or hay it is much more adsorbent. easier to clean out the frozen poop.

I am a shavings user, i have straw but that goes to the sheep... personally, i strongly dislike straw/hay for bedding for ducks.

I use shavings, I think it keeps the birds warmer but that is just my theory.

Shavings for indoor bedding, sawdust pellets in the watering station to absorb splash, chopped straw for the day pen, to make a kind of composted absorbent fluffy bedding.

It was good to read this. I use shavings for bedding with a straw nest which they spread all around the house. And I have a huge problem cleaning out the house because the shavings get moist with their droppings then freeze solid. Ugh. I am going to be working on insulating the house a little better to help my egg production, but that's for another post....

any type of shavings in particular that I should get? Like pine, cedar, or something just regular and plain?

Mine are a softwood combination. A lot of debate on cedar in regards to fumes.

It say's Horse bedding on the bale and it's soft wood like GQ said, not cedar.
