Winter Gardening Anyone?

I have planted (a couple months ago):

Spinach
3 different varieties of lettuce
Kale
Broccoli
Brussel sprouts (never been fond of them, but wanted to try them from my garden)
Swiss Chard (Let my plants go to seed - got LOTS of chard now)
Carrots (2 different varieties)
Beets
Snap peas
Rhubarb (wasn't planted in the fall, but its going crazy)

Another month and I'll put in Onions and Garlic.

Miraclesnow, It it looks like you are coming up on your first frost soon. So, unless you are willling to protect a new planting, your not going to be able to get much to grow.
I looked up the University Extension for North Carolina and found this document:

A low tunnel is an amazing season extender. If you have the means, I would highly recommend one. It sure is nice to pick red tomatoes when everyone elses have been hit by frost and died off. I am everyones favorite person when I glean my plants at the end of November and give people green garden tomatoes to ripen in their windows. Garden fresh tomaotes on a leftover turkey sandwich is not the norm around here.

Looks like we are going to have our first hard freeze tonight. We haven't gotten below 40 yet and now we have a cold front from Canada that is going to drop us to a forecast low of 28 degrees. High of 81 today, down to a high of 41 on Thursday.

you put your onions and garlic in, in november ?

Garlic is best planted in the fall. It has a little time to form roots and then rest for the winter to start growing in the spring. Yum!

We're working on getting a cold frame built, but not sure it'll be a "go" for this year. If it does, it'll be full of spinach, chard and kale.

cool, last year we got a late start getting the garden all fenced off and ready to go so i didn't get garlic in till about may and they are still not ready. this year we are expanding the garden so worse case scenario we will be ready for spring this time. but i still have hopes for some winter crops. it's just that we have multiple projects going on all over the place. we got a cute little greehouse that is 9'x11' but we ain't figured out where we want to put it and it's yet another project :) but it's all fun, i just wish i had the energy i had when i was 18 he he :)

No its not too late Check out what others have planted on this thread Lots of things you can still plant

I would love to grow a winter garden! I live in Colorado and we have alot of sunny days here, I could really take advantage of that!
