that isn't a rumor, that's a fact! it's what happens to battery hens. they lay 2 eggs a day, instead of one, and then after 2 (and sometimes shorter) years of lay, they don't lay eggs. ask @Shadrach all about it!

That's sad! But I'm glad to hear proof of it. Genetics could play a part in this, but it sounds like they are really burnt out!
