Well, we aren't too cold. Getting into the forties at night. But winds yesterday gusting up to 50 mph. i had just taken the plastic sheeting off the pens day before, thinking they needed some sunshine. Then had to put them back up, as they were whipping me in the face, to keep my chickens from blowing away.
i have three batches of new chicks. Some a little over a month old, in an aviary on my porch, now shrouded in blankets. Some one week olds in a hutch in my shed, and then some a couple days old in another hutch in my shed. All have moms to keep them warm. But still turn on the heat lamp in the early morning so they can venture out from under mom to get their hard boiled eggs.
i think winter is coming.
