Winter time ideas

This is our coop, the top has heavy duty netting, inside there are nesting boxes and several places to hide and perch.

I can't tell, is there a roof over the perches? Do they stay dry?

If so..then you are already done! :D It looks like there are already lots of wind blocks...so nothing to do.

Not really any roofing yet besides the netting...they do have a pallet on legs (like a table) that they enjoy hiding under

Well, I would put a little roof something over their perch, so that they can sit there and stay dry.

Of course, my sister lives in Texas (hill country area) and hers perch outside in the rain and wind all winter long and haven't died from exposure.

I am facing my first winter with chickens and i am worried about heat and keeping the water thawed. We plan to cover the drafty spots but we are putting in three 4 in vents near the roof. They have a perch and two nesting boxes and they all cuddle together into one box or as close as they can(12 total chickens). Any suggestions? I'll post pictures if it would help but not until Friday most likely. I live in Vermont so -20f is not unheard of and it drops below 0f often

Have a section that is covered by a roof to keep off the rain, during cold weather.. Wrap the sides with a tarp or plastic to break the wind.. You do not want it completely air tight during cold weather, but an area that does not have drafts.
