I know this is a liitle early because it is still hot in East Texas but was needing suggestions on how to keep my chickens warm in the winter. Will a heat lamp mounted in the chicken house keep them awake all night?

:welcome!

They don't need a heat source. Don't give them heat at all, they don't need it :) And especially avoid heat lamps because they cause coop fires - I've seen a lot of people on here burn down their coops and barns with heat lamps.

Good question, janis1127. Not sure if you will need heat at all in Texas as long as you have a draft-free coop. I live in Kansas that, while not exactly Siberia, can get pretty nippy. My chickens survive just fine in an uninsulated and unheated coop. They are pretty tough. I worry far more about the heat. Good luck to you!

Thank you for all the help. Yes I do have a very insulated coop. Actually it is a metal portable building that was brought in on skids. It has one window in it. Our winters vary here in Texas so sometimes they are very mild.
