Are my chickens weird or what? I thought I was getting some good winter treats to feed my girls. I got black oil seed and cracked corn and they won't eat it. This morning I decided to put some of the corn in some water and microwave a few minutes. They liked that a little bit, but don't go crazy for it. What's up?

Some chickens are just picky. Mine go nuts for sunflower seeds but won't touch cracked corn. Wheat and sunflower seed sprouts are very popular. Cabbage is a favorite. Try different things and sooner or later you'll find things they like.

We've been experimenting with different types of scratch and this last time we got straight scratch, as opposed to scratch grains. It's basically finely ground corn, looks like cornmeal. Dry my chickens won't touch it. Mixed with warm water to make a mash and they adore it.

Mix their layer feed with warm water! Mine think they're getting a treat.....hahaha

I mixed up some scratch, rolled oats, grits, black oil sunflowers seeds, and powered milk all in a large bowl..then I add hot water to the mix just enough to make the oats get gummy like..then I put spoonfuls(like a large tennis ball size) of that stuff on a cookie sheet and bake them until they are hard as rocks..you can put these in the fridge until ya use them..just get few out and pop them in the microwave to knock off the cold and watch them go nuts over them..lol..

Yes, Lizard7, you are weird!.....ok, I will admit it.....I cook treats for all my critters.....so they will do this when they see me coming:
