Ok, this is our chickens daytime shelter... their coop is not attached to their pen so I gave them daytime shelter... a dog house. It doesn't have a door, so they aren't protected from the wind, but they are protected from the snow. The tarp covers bars on the side of it for ventilation in the summer... in the summer the tarp comes off and its perfect but in winter its not that helpful.

Any ideas on how to winter proof the front of it... maybe put a tarp over some of the doorway or a piece of plywood? I'm not much of a handywomen...

I would leave it as it is. After all, it's not the main coop. It's just a place for them to get out of the weather if they want. If you were to put something over the front of it, the chickens might get confused and not go in it at all.
